Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and can sometimes be found in the urine. What does this suggest about how the body deals with vitamin C?

A. Vitamin C continues to circulate in the blood so it is available as cells need it.

B. Excess amounts move through the wall of the bladder and re-enter the bloodstream.

C. Excess amounts are removed by the kidneys and excreted along with urine.

D. vitamin C can be stored in fat cells surrounding the kidneys until it is needed

Answer:

Excess amounts are removed by the kidneys and excreted along with urine.

Step-by-step explanation:

When we take Vitamin C, it can stay in the body for weeks. Levels of vitamin C in the blood are controlled by the kidneys through a process called ‘renal reabsorption,’ this prevents vitamin C from being lost in the urine. However, taking large doses of vitamin C can overwhelm this system, hence the extra amount is now lost in the urine in a matter of hours.

So someone who already has high levels in the blood takes some more vitamin C, the increase in the body is only a temporary one. The majority is almost immediately lost in the urine.
