(c) Set up the following word problem as a proportion and solve. Then write your answer as a complete sentence.
A health department estimates that 8 vials of malaria serum will treat 100 people. At this rate, how many vials are required to treat 175 people?
Answer:
If 8 vials will treat 100 people 8 divided by 100 equals 12.5 the 12.4 divided by 175 equals 14.
So the final answer is 14.

Let's show this by setting it up:

8\ vials\ per\ 100\ people = (8\ vials)/(100\ people)\\ (8)/(100)=(x)/(175\ people)\\ 8*175=x*100\\ 1400=100x\\ x=(1400)/(100)=14
So yes, you will need 14 vials of serum to cure 175 people.
