remember you can do anythingn to an equation as long as you do it to both sides
2-5x=-18
minus 2 both sides
2-2-5x=-18-2
0-5x=-20
-5x=-20
times both sides by -1
5x=20
divide both sides by 5
(5x)/5=20/5
(5/5)x=4
1x=4
x=4
