An elementary school buys tickets for a field trip to the zoo. The number of children going on the field trip is 2 times the number of adults. Tickets for children cost $4 each and tickets for adults cost $6 each. The total cost of all of the tickets is $1650, how many tickets of each type did the school purchase? To answer the question, let x be the number of adults going to the zoo and 2x be the number of children. The total amount gained from the ticket sales should be,
1650 = 6x + 4(2x)
The values of x is equal to 117.86. Therefore, the school bought approximately 118 tickets for adults and 236 for children.
