for ax²+bx+c=0
x=
(-b+/- √(b^2-4ac) )/(2a)

so

12x²-17x+6=0
a=12
b=-17
c=6

x=
(-(-17)+/- √((-17)^2-4(12)(6)) )/(2(12))
x=
(17+/- √(289-288) )/(24)
x=
(17+/- √(1) )/(24)
x=
(17+/- 1)/(32)
x=
(17+1)/(32) or
(17-1)/(32)
x=
(18)/(32) or
(16)/(32)
x=9/16 or 1/2
