1: carbohydrates- main energy source for the brain
2: protein- the main structural component of cells and is responsible for the building & repairing body tissues
3: fat- energy source & when consumed, increases the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins D, E, and K.
4: vitamins- vitamin C provides structure to the blood vessels, bone, and ligaments. Vitamin D helps to maintain calcium homeostasis.
5: Minerals (sodium)- sodium helps to maintain fluid volume outside of the cells
6: water- helps to maintain homeostasis in the body & transports nutrients to cells
