It might be either 4x+8x=6 or it could be 8x+4x=6

the number is 'x'
sum of a number times 4 and 8 (4x+8)
is equal to (=)
6 (6)
4x+8=6
minus 8 both sides
4x=-2
divide 4
x=-1/2
