Answer:

Total distance traveled in all = 220 miles

Average speed for the entire trip = 44 miles per hours

Explanation:

The family traveled from point A to B in 2 hours at a speed of 55 miles per hour.

Average speed = distance traveled/time taken

Time traveled from point A to B = 2 hours

Average speed from point A to B = 55 miles per hour

using the formula,

55 = Distance traveled from point A to B / 2

cross multiplying

Distance traveled from point A to B = 55 × 2

Distance traveled from point A to B = 110 miles

The family returned from point B to A , due to snowstorm the family took 3 hours to travel back to A .

The total travel is the total distance the family covers from point A to B and point B to A.

Since the distance from point A to B is known , point B to A distance is also known.

Total distance covered = distance from point A to B + distance from point B to A

Total distance covered = 110 + 110 = 220 miles

Total distance traveled in all = 220 miles

Total time traveled = 2 + 3 = 5 hours

Average speed for the entire trip = 220/5

Average speed for the entire trip = 44 miles per hours
