How do political action committees influence elections? give examples of when this has happened. detailed answer if possible please!

Political action committees (PACs) raise and spend funds with the intention to elect or defeat political candidates. They can give up to $15,000 annually to any national party committee, and in a primary, general or special election. PACs can give $5,000 to a candidate committee for each election.
