Let n represent the number.
Remember "plus" is addition, "times" is multiplication, "equal to" is =, and "sum" is addition.
5 + 4n = 7n + 11
- 4n -4n
5 = 3n + 11
-11 -11
-6 = 3n
n = -2

The equation would be 5+4x=7x+11
Which comes out to:
x = - 2
