Why is the blinking response effective? what kind of job would you have where you used this reflex quite often?

I find the evolutionary response very useful. When you get yourself into a situation when an air born projectile; for example a piece of paper flies toward your eye. You don't want it to do serious damage to your eye, but rather the skin meant to protect it in the first place. It also helps from junk like dust or chemicals from getting into your eye.
