The y will cancel out and you will be left with x^-1 over x^-1 and that is equivalent to 1. I believe your answer is one.

Multiply the top and bottom by (x*y) to get
(y-x)/(x+y)
Final answer:
(y - x) / (x + y)
Hope I helped :)
