Nikos finds a toy train set on sale for 20% off at a toy store. the original price was $35. Nikos must also pay 6.5% sales tax. What is the total amount nikos must pay for the train set?

35-20%= 28
28+6,5%= 29.82

Work:
$35(.8)=$28
$28(1.065)=$29.82
Step-by-step explanation:
The first step is to find out how much the train set cost on sale. Since it was 20% off that would mean that it is 80% of the original price. That's why in the first step I multiplied $35 by .8. The second step is to multiply the discounted price by the tax, .065, but since I would have to add the tax to the discounted price anyway I just made it all one equation by multiplying by 1.065 instead.
