Look at triangle STU: A right triangle STU is shown with the right angle at T. The length of side ST is labeled as 42 cm, and the length of side TU is labeled as 56 cm. What is the length (in centimeters) of side SU of the triangle?

SU would be the hypotenuse so you can use Pythagorean Theorem to solve this problem.
42^2 + 56^2 = c^2
1764 + 3136 = c^2
4900 = c^2
70 = c

Answer:

70 cm

Explanation:

First draw a schematic of the triangle with all the information, as in the attached image.

Then it is visible that the hypotenuse of the the triangle is side SU.

Using Pythagoras, solve the length of SU:

SU^(2)=TU^(2)+ST^(2)\\\\SU^(2)=56^(2)+42^(2) \\\\SU^(2)=4900\\\\SU=√(4900) =70

Look at triangle STU: A right triangle STU is shown with the right angle at T. The-example-1
