simple foods such as white bread and fruits are simple sugars which means that the body is able to break it down quickly to provide your body with energy. Simple sugars provide the body with "fast" energy which is short term energy or energy that is used shortly after eating. Then there are complex carbs such a whole wheat bread and oatmeal which as carbs that provide more long term energy and are more sustainable and last for longer. The complex carbs also provide the same amount of energy but give it over a longer time period
