The right answer is D) ultraviolet light.

The ultraviolet radiation emitted by the Sun is classified into three types of photons: UV A photons having a wavelength between 400 and 315 nanometers, UV B radiation between 315 and 280 nanometers, and UV C between 280 and 100 nanometers. Much of UV B is filtered by the atmosphere, while UV C is completely absorbed by the ozone layer and does not reach the surface of the Earth. The solar radiation to which humans are exposed is therefore composed of 95 percent UV A and 5 percent UV B.

However, we know that UV rays cause skin cancer. They cause mutations in the DNA of skin cells, which can lead to an uncontrolled proliferation of these cells and the appearance of cancerous tumors. Thus, 80,000 to 90,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year, and the number of melanomas, the most serious form of skin cancer, doubles every decade since 1945 in the world.
