279 miles / 3 hours = 93 miles / hour (divided each side by 3)

465 miles / 5 hours (multiplied each side by 5)

465 * 0.06 = 27.9 (find 6% of 465)

465 + 27.9 = 492.9 miles (add 6% to 465)

The answer would be d: 492.9 miles.

Answer: If the hurricane traveled 279 miles in 3 hours. then his velocity is 279/3 miles per hour = 93 miles per hour.

if the rate increases by 6%, then the velocity at which is moving increases by 6%, then the velocity is 1.06*93 miles per hour = 98.58 miles per hour.

with this velocity, in the lapse of 5 hours the hurricane will travel 5*98.8 miles = 492.9.

So the correct option is D.
