The pressure in an engine cylinder increases from 7.6 atm to 13 atm as the gas is compressed from 0.50 L to 0.10 L. What is the expected cylinder temperature if the gas was initially 15°C? (Remember to express answer to correct significant figures.)

To be able to answer this question, we use our knowledge on the ideal gas equation. We do as follows:

P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2
7.6(0.50) / (273.15 + 15) = 13(0.10) / T2
T2 = 98.58 K = -174.57 degrees Celsius

Hope this answers the question. Have a nice day.
