Answer:

5.5 pounds

Explanation:

We can use proportion to sole this problem

The question asks us to find the number of pounds a puppy of 88 ounce weighs if 1 pound = 16 ounces

Using proportion;

Let x be the number of pounds the puppy weighs

1 pound = 16 ounces

x = 88 ounces

Cross-multiply

16 × x = 88 × 1

16 x = 88

Divide both-side of the equation by 16

(16x)/(16) =
(88)/(16)

(On the left-hand side of the equation 16 at the numerator will cancel-out the 16 at the denominator, leaving us with just x while at the right-hand side of the equation 88 will be divided by 16)

x = 5.5 pounds

Therefore the puppy weighs 5.5 pounds
