Sally and Audrey had the same amount of money. After Sally had spent $60 and Audrey had spent $84, the amount of money Sally had left was thrice as much as Audrey's. How much money did Sally have at first? Please use basic math, I need this by tomorrow. Thank you!! ( The bottom one )

X - $60 = 3(X-$84)

X-$60=3X-$253

-2X= -$192

X=$96

Using units and ratios.
Both start with 1 unit(1U) the represents their starting money.
1U-60 = 3 × (1U-84)
1U-60 = 3U - 252
2U = 192
1U = 96

This the non algebra method, it's very similar in concept to the algebra method already shown. The difference is just using different representations.
