(denominator * whole number + numerator)
31/3 + 7/9
93/9 +7/9
100/9
1 11/9

1/3 can be turned into 3/9 by multiplying the numerator and the denominator by 3

10 3/9 +7/9 = 10 10/9, which equals 11 1/9
