this can be solve using the formula v = sqrt( 2gy)where v is the velocityg is the acceleration due to gravityy is the vertical distance.
this is the formula of velocity of impact upon free fall. impact velocity is equal to its initial velocity
v = sqrt( 2 ( 9.81 m/s2) ( 500 m))v = 99 m/s
