x + 5 = x^2 + 3
x + 5 - 3 = x^2 + 3 - 3
x + 2 -x^2 = x^2 -x^2
-x^2 + x + 2 = 0
You can use the quadratic equation to solve the rest.
The quadratic equation is
\frac{-b± \sqrt{b^(2)-4(ac)} }{2a}

ax^(2) +bx+c=0
