The standard form of a linear equation is Ax + By = C.

Y = -1/4 x – 6
Multiply the whole equation by 4
4( y = -1/4 x – 6) 4y = -x – 24
Transpose -x to the other side of the eqution to obtain standard form
X + 4y = -24
