Answer:

7200 cm²

Explanation:

You need to do two things before calculating the area:

1) All lengths must be in the same unit.

2) Divide the compound figure into two rectangles.

See the picture below.

Use the conversion 1 m = 100 cm to change the two lengths in m to cm.

2 m = 2 × 100 cm = 200 cm

4 m = 4 × 100 cm = 400 cm

area of rectangle = length × width

total area = 12 cm × 200 cm + 12 cm × 400 cm

total area = 2400 cm² + 4800 cm²

total area = 7200 cm²

Answer:

The area of the given figure is 7200 cm² or 72 m²

Explanation:

For the given figure we divide this in two rectangle

i.e., Rectangle A and Rectangle B

So,

Rectangle A

  • Length (l₁) = 2 m = 200 cm
  • Breadth (b₁) = 12 cm

Rectangle B

  • Length (l₂) = 4 m = 400 cm
  • Breadth (b₂) = 12 cm

Here, Area of Rectangle A

A = (l₁) × (b₁)

A = 200 × 12 cm

A = 2400 cm² or 24 m²

Now, Area of Rectangle B

A = (l₂) × (b₂)

A = 400 × 12 cm

A = 4800 cm² or 48

Now,

Area of figure

= Area of Rectangle A + Area of Rectangle B

= 2400 cm² + 4800 cm²

= 7200 cm² or 72

Thus, The area of the given figure is 7200 cm² or 72 m²
