For the answer to the question above,
2x + 4y = –7 (1)
y = -1/2x + 5 (2)
Putting (2) into (1), we have:
-2x + 4(-1/2x + 5) = -7
-2x - 2x + 5 = -7
-4x = -7 - 5 = -12
x = -12/-4 = 3
y = -1/2(3) + 5 = -3/2 + 5 = 7/2
Therefore there is only one solution
