1/6+5/8= 4/24+15/24
= 19/24
I think the total amount is 19/24.

Answer:

(19)/(24) fraction represents the total amount of paint mike mixes

Explanation:

As per the statement:

Mike is mixing paint for his walls. he mixes 1/6 gallon blue paint and 5/8 gallon green paint in a large container.

\text{He mixes Blue paint} = (1)/(6) gallons and

\text{He mixes green paint} = (5)/(8) gallons.

We have to find the total amount of paint mike mixes.

\text{Total amount of paint he mixes} = \text{He mixes Blue paint} +\text{He mixes green paint}

Substitute the given values we have;

\text{Total amount of paint he mixes}  = (1)/(6) + (5)/(8) = (8+30)/(48)=(38)/(48)

Simplify:

\text{Total amount of paint he mixes} = (19)/(24)

Therefore, the fraction represents the total amount of paint mike mixes is:
(19)/(24)
