Why did the articles of confederation fail

The central government was weak. It didn't have the power to tax. There was no executive (someone to carry out the day-to-day govt issues) or judicial branches to settle arguments amongst the states. 9 out of the 13 states had to agree to pass a law, which meant that the only ones that would get passed were the most popular ones.
