change=given-cost
cost=total cost=cost for all of them added together
cost=popcorn+small drink+fruit snacks
cost=4+3+5
cost=12
given=x
change=3
3=x-12
that is the equation
solve
add 12 to both sides
15=x
he gave $15 to the cashier
