(4+3+5)+3=t
t=15

Add all of them together and you'll get 12 then add three with will eventually give you 15 since he's giving you your change back

He gave 15 dollars because 5+4+3 is 12 and he gets back 3 dollars which you would add to twelve to see the total number.
