3.21 lbs; (3.21/5)*4=2.568 lbs brought to picnic.

Can add all 3 then multiply by 4/5

Can also get 4/5 of each container then add them all up.

Answer:

3 lb

Explanation:

By the given diagram,

The weight of,

First container = 1.03 lb,

Second container = 1.12 lb,

Third container = 1.6 lb,

Thus, the total weight of the containers of potato salad = 1.03 + 1.12 + 1.6 = 3.75 lb,

∵ she brings 4/5 of the potato salad to a picnic,

So, the total potatoes salads taken for the picnic =
(4)/(5)* 3.75

= 4 × 0.75

= 3 lb,

Alternative method :

'She brings 4/5 of the potato salad to a picnic' states that 4/5th of each container is taken,

(4)/(5) of first container =
(4)/(5)* 1.03 = 0.824 lb,

(4)/(5) of second container =
(4)/(5)* 1.12 = 0.896 lb,

(4)/(5) of third container =
(4)/(5)* 1.6 = 1.28 lb,

Hence, the total potato salad is taken for the picnic

= 0.824+0.896+1.28

= 3 lb
