Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech.

Some common examples:

I am so hungry I could eat a horse.I had a ton of chores to do.Examples from literature:From Flannery O'Connor's Parker's Back: "And the skin on her face was thin and drawn tight like the skin on an onion and her eyes were gray and sharp like the points of two ice picks."

Examples from romeo and juliet is " there is no world without verona walls,/ but purgatory, torture, hell itself (3.3.17-18)
and another one is “The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars, / As daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven / Would through the airy region stream so bright / That birds would sing and think it were not night.” (2.1.19-22)
