Jeremy runs 7 miles per week and increases his distance by one mile each week. Tony runs three miles per week and increases his distance by 2 miles each week. In how many weeks will Jeremy and Tony be running the same distance? What will that distance be?

J=Jeremy;T=Tony;
x=slope(miles increased per week)
J=1x+7
T=2x+3

Plug that into a graphing calculator and you can see where they cross.

Otherwise, just make them equal each other:
x+7=2x+3

Then solve:
x+4=2x
4=x
It takes them 4 weeks to run the same distance, that distance will be (solve one equation for x=4) 11miles.
