I believe they attend meetings, vote to enact U.S laws, they express beliefs and provide input in debates . Centrally they are a important part of the legislative branch.

members of congress review bills and choose to either pass it, which causes it to go to the president for approval, or to veto it.

they can also conduct investigations, formally called congressional hearings, on issues, scandals, and possible legislative fixes.

they can confirm the appointment of executive and judicial officers as well as convict or impeach them.

and lastly, they solve probelms citizens may have with govt policies or agencies
