The beggining as this is when the babies organs are developed, the final stages are feeding, and growing bones. So yes the beggining

I would assume that the early stages of pregnancy are most crucial for the development of the foetus. This would generally be the development of vital body parts such as the brain and we know a dud brain is a birth defect. In the late stages, pretty much everything that is vital for survival is fully developed.
