Mrs. Ramiriz is making pies to sell at the local farmer’s market. It costs her $5 to make each pie, plus a one-time cost of $30 for baking supplies. She plans to sell the pies for $12 each. Which equation can be used to find the number of pies she needs to sell to break even?

We can represent the number of pies she makes to be x. We also need to add $30 to the equation to take the baking supply cost into consideration. The Cost can be represented by C. C = 5x + 30 is the equation to use to determine the Cost! 5 times the number of pies she makes plus the $30 for baking supplies! If we look at just the cost when she doesn't sell any pies, we can say x = 0 That means C = 5(0) + 30 or C = 30, it means that she has to pay $30 or the Cost is $30 when she sells no pies. This makes sense since the baking supplies were $30. Are you with me so far?
