a) For function 1, the rate of change is -2 since the change in y is 2 and the change in x is -1. Since 2 over -1 is -2, the rate of change is -2.

For function 2, the rate of change is 4, since the change in y is 4 and the change in x is 1. Therefore the rate of change is 4 because 4 over 1 is 4.

b) Function 2 has the greater rate of change since 4 < -2.
