go down the left side to the desired number then go right the desired number then that should be the answer

Hi there!

There is really no "best way" to do multiplication. You can do this in many different forms. I personally like multiplication on pencil and paper, since I am a hands-on kind of person, but you could also use a calculator which is faster and/or a computer.
