Let the cost of jacket before sales tax be z.
sales tax = $2.38
When the sales tax was included the jacket = $37
Cost of Jacket + Sales tax = 37
z + 2.38 = 37
Equation
z = 37 - 2.38
z = 34.62
Hence cost of jacket =
$34.62
