[tex] W + D = 1000 \\
W = 3*D [tex]
Plug the second equation into the first;
[tex] W+D=1000 \\
(3*D)+D=1000\\
4D=1000 [tex]

D = $250

Let the cost of the dryer be x.

Since the washer is 3* the cost of dryer = 3*x = 3x

The total cost = $1000

x + 3x = 1000

4x = 1000

x = 1000/4

x = 250

Since the cost of the dryer be x , x = 250

Cost of dryer = $250.

Hope this explains it.
