Harriet Beecher Stowe is most known for her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. This book is based on Stowe's knowledge of what slavery is like in the United States during the middle of the 19th century. Even though this was a fictional book, it was based on real tragedies that slaves suffered through during this time. Many Northerners (especially abolitionist) saw this is an accurate depiction of slavery and yet another reason why this institution should be outlawed.
