What is the first step in solving x^2+2x+3=0

first subtract three from both sides. then you have
x^(2) +2x=-3 and you solve from there

Is the question asking by completing the square?
X^2+2X+3=0
X^2+2x+1+2=0
(x+1)^2+2=0
(x+1)^2=-2
x+1=squr root 2i or x+1=-sqr root 2i
