mitosis and meiosis have similar mechanism of chromosomes division (spindle) and have phases: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. BUT in meiosis chromosomes are grouped in pairs, as a result cells have twice less chromosomes than a maternal cell, plus during a meiosis a crossing over takes place
