First, find out how much of each coin the grandpa has...
24÷2= 12 dimes
24÷6= 4 quarters
24-16= 8 remaining coins
8÷2= 4 pennies and 4 nickels
Then, find out what each group of coins is worth...
12 times 10= $1.20 worth of dimes
4 times 25= $1.00 of quarters
4 times 1= 4 cents of pennies
4 times 5 = 20 cents worth of nickels
Then, add all the values that you found out in the last step together...
$1.20
1.00
0.04
+0.20

$2.44 is the total value that Sam needs to discover.
