The phase "E Pluribus Unum" appears on currency in the United States and is meant to represent the history of the country as a nation of immigrants. The phrase translates as "out of many, one" referring to the fact that so many different nationalities and ethnic groups make up our nation. Remember: the official motto of the United States- created by a law in 1956- is "In God We Trust."

E pluribus unum means "out of many, one" so it could refer to either the fact that the 50 states make one nationĀ or also the diversity in the U.S. - many races of people come together in America.
