(x+2=2(x+1) - 4
The next step would be to use distributive property.
(x+2=2x+2) - 4

x+2=2(x+1)-4
distribute the 2
x+2=2x+2-4
x+2=2x-2
minus x bth sides
2=x-2
add 2 both sides
4=x
