If an object is not accelerating what can you determine about the sum of all the forces on the object?

Acceleration is another way of saying something is speeding up or slowing down. So if the object is not speeding up or slowing down that means the forces must all be canceling each other out. Numerically, we represent this with a 0. This is because a force from one direction might be given a +1 and a force from the opposite direction given a -1. They cancel each other out mathematically. Hope that helps!

I can determine that the vector sum of all the forces acting on the object is zero. The forces are balanced.
