OK so you would treat the absolute value line kind of like parentheses. First you would do the work inside then take the absolute value. In case you don't know absolute value is how far something is from zero
|10-(-43)|

since the absolute value of anything is always a positive number, you have the absolute value of 10 minus negative 43, which is really 10 + 43. You now have 53, since a double negative in math is a positive. Now youre left with |53|, and so your answer is the absolute value of positive 53, meaning your answer is 53.
