What was the immediate cause of the secession of south Carolina and the deep south?

The main issues were Slavery and State's Rights, which caused the South to argue with the North whether to ban Slavery or not. Abraham Lincoln was Anti-Slavery, which would be a threat to the South's Economy. When Lincoln got elected in the Election of 1860, South Carolina (and by extension the rest of the South) got angry because they could loose their State's Rights, and then they seceded.
