A patient with burns to the skin complains of numbness and difficulty staying warm. Based on this information, diagnose which layers of skin were damaged and the degree of the burns. Explain your diagnoses.

There is a second degree burn because the outer layers of the skin have been damaged, i.e the epidermis (Stratum Corneum, Stratum Lucidium, Stratum Bassale).

It sounds like a second degree burn .-. The outer layers of skin would be damaged.
